Volunteer To Coach
Volunteer head and assistant coaches are always needed for our BAYS (Travel) program. It's a great way to support your child’s soccer experience and give back to our community. All of our volunteer coaches are fully supported by WUSC's professional coaching staff.
How to volunteer to coach: During your child’s registration in the WUSC Admin Portal, select the “Volunteer” checkbox and choose Head Coach or Assistant Coach.
In addition to registering as a volunteer coach, all interested BAYS (Travel) coaches must complete a brief coaching application each season.
Tryout Information
How BAYS Tryouts Work
BAYS (Travel) teams for Grades 4–8 are formed each spring through a tryout and evaluation process. Tryouts help us create appropriately placed stratified teams, while ensuring every registered player is placed on a team for the fall season.
Tryouts are used to:
- Evaluate players relative to others in their age group
- Create stratified teams where appropriate
- Form balanced teams for players who do not attend tryouts or are not seeking stratified placement
Important: Attending tryouts is not required to play BAYS soccer. Players who do not attend tryouts will be placed on a balanced team.
Who Should Attend Tryouts
- Current Grade 3 players (entering Grade 4):
Two tryout sessions are offered. Players are strongly encouraged to attend both sessions. - Current Grades 4–7 players:
One tryout session is held for each age group.
To be considered for a stratified team, players must register and attend the scheduled tryout(s).
What to Expect at Tryouts
Tryouts are age-group based and run by WUSC coaches and evaluators. Players will participate in small-sided activities and game play designed to assess technical skills, decision-making, effort, and overall play.
- Evaluations are conducted using player numbers (not names)
- Results are reviewed across the entire age group
- Final team placement considers tryout performance and the overall goal of creating competitive, development-appropriate teams
Tryout results are not shared individually and will be announced when Fall teams are released at the end of the spring season.
Registration Requirements
Players must complete the following before attending a tryout:
- Register for WUSC Travel Tryouts (current grade)
- Register for WUSC Travel – Fall Season
There is no cost to register for tryouts.
Players interested in goalkeeper evaluation must:
- Register and attend their regular age-group tryout
- Sign up separately for goalkeeper tryouts
Important Notes
- No makeup sessions are offered
- If your child has a conflict, please contact your Age Group Coordinator before the tryout
- Players who do not attend tryouts must still register for Fall Travel by the stated deadline
- Tryout schedules, times, and locations may change—please check back close to your tryout date
