Coaching Requirements

All head and assistant coaches in WUSC’s In-Town and BAYS (Travel) programs must complete these steps. This includes returning coaches and new volunteers, whether or not you have coached with another club before.

Yes, but not every item renews on the same schedule:

• Adult Registration: Every year
• SafeSport: Every year (short annual refresher after your first full course)
• Concussion Training: Every 2 years
• CORI/NBGC: Every 3 years

Your Sports Connect account will show what is current and what needs to be renewed.

All requirements should be completed and showing as cleared in Sports Connect before the first practice or game. WUSC cannot assign you to a team or list you on a roster until Mass Youth Soccer shows you as fully cleared.

No. For player safety and insurance reasons, you may not coach, run practices, or be on the player sideline until your coaching requirements are completed.

No. You only need one Adult Registration and one set of clearances per soccer year. Once you are fully cleared, that clearance applies to all WUSC teams and roles you hold during that year.

There is no direct cost to coaches for background checks or required trainings. These are covered through WUSC’s affiliation with Massachusetts Youth Soccer as part of our commitment to player safety.
