Athlete Wellness
Soccer Injury Prevention
Soccer places significant physical and mental demands on players, making athlete wellness an important part of player development. Taking care of the body, preparing properly, and building healthy habits can help players stay healthy, perform at their best, and enjoy the game for years to come.
Our goal is to help players develop the habits and awareness they need to support their health, reduce injury risk, and continue growing both on and off the field.
Injury Prevention
FIFA 11+ Program
The FIFA 11+ is an injury prevention programme developed by a comprehensive group of international experts and targeted at football players aged from 14 up.
Football Australia Perform+
The Football Australia Perform+ was developed in 2020 as the primary injury prevention program for football in Australia. The Football Australia Perform+ is an updated version of the 11+ program (1) with more flexibility for coaches and new content targeting hip and groin injury prevention (2).
ACL Injury Prevention
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries are common in sports, particularly among soccer players. Many ACL injuries occur without contact, often when landing from a jump, slowing down while running, or changing direction. These injuries can result in significant time away from the game and may affect an athlete’s ability to return to sport.
Understanding the factors that contribute to ACL injuries is an important part of athlete wellness and injury prevention. Some risk factors cannot be changed, such as age, anatomy, and previous injury. Other factors can be addressed through proper training, movement mechanics, strength development, and injury-prevention programs.
Our goal is to help players build healthy movement habits and develop the strength, balance, and awareness needed to reduce injury risk and stay active on the field.
Concussion Policy
Concussion Policy
At WUSC, we want to ensure our players are provided the safest environment possible. As a result, we are instituting a concussion policy to help provide guidelines related to players who have been diagnosed with or are suspected of having a concussion.
